Fatima Farheen Mirza is a Pakistani author and poet who wrote her first story at the age of six, and her first published work of fiction when she was eleven. She has written a number of collections of poetry, several novels, and children's books, including the internationally acclaimed "My Name is Fatima". Fatima Farheen Mirza was born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1976. Her family went to Pakistan from India when she was six, when her father found work as a professor of engineering. After attending an English-medium school, she attended college and graduated with an English degree. In 2007, she married British-Pakistani filmmaker Shoaib Mansoor; the couple had two children. Mirza is also a professor at Lahore University of Management Sciences. Mirza has written a number of collections of poetry, including "The Unfinished Divorce" (2005), "No One Ever Died For Love" (2006), "A Light Before Dawn" (2008), "Wedding Songs" (2009), and "The Last Time I Saw You Asleep" (2012). She has also published two novels to date: "The Demon" (2009) and "My Name Is Fatima" (2013). Mirza's most recent novel, "My Name Is Fatima", tells the story of a young girl named Fatima who finds herself dealing with the death of her mother. The novel received critical praise for its extraordinary prose and its compelling exploration of grief in childhood. It also won several awards, including the Man Asian Literary Prize, the Best Translated Book Award from Asia Literary Review, the International Prize for Arabic Fiction from Rabat-Morocco Culture Ministry for Best Debut Novel in English Translation 2013, and the Prix du Livre Inter in France.
